2007: Provas de Agregação sobre o tema “A análise de misturas complexas por espectroscopia de Ressonância Magnética Nuclear (RMN): princípios e aplicações”, Departamento de Química, Universidade de Aveiro, Janeiro de 2007.
1992: Doutoramento em Química, desenvolvido na Universidade de East Anglia, U.K., e terminado em Outubro de 1992. A tese produzida intitulou-se "Spectroscopic Studies of Proteins in the Solid State".
1990: Provas de Aptidão Pedagógica e Capacidade Científica sobre os temas "Gelificação de Polissacarídeos: estudo do efeito de iões por métodos físico-químicos" e "Estudos de Polissacarídeos Sulfatados por FT-IR".
1987: Licenciatura em Química, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal, completada em Outubro de 1987 com a nota final de 17 valores.

 

 

Interesses científicos

Os interesses de investigação listam-se, por ordem aproximadamente evolutiva, do seguinte modo:
• Caracterização estrutural de proteínas purificadas de cereais para a compreensão das suas propriedades viscoelásticas.
• Estudos estruturais de cortiça e outros materiais lignocelulósicos.
• Estudos estruturais e dinâmicos de mono- e oligossacarídeos no estado sólido.
• Desenvolvimento de técnicas de Rheo-NMR para o estudo de propriedades reológicas e sua interpretação ao nível molecular.
• Estudo estrutural e dinâmico de geles de polissacarídeos.
• Estudos espectroscópicos da composição e alterações bioquímicas de frutos e sumos de fruta.
• Desenvolvimentos de métodos analíticos rápidos fazendo uso de RMN do estado líquido e do estado sólido, FTIR e quimiometria, por exemplo, métodos para implementação prática em análise de cervejas e detecção de contaminação microbiológica em sumos.
• Análise de biofluidos e tecidos biológicos para caracterização bioquímica de doenças e seu diagnóstico precoce.
• Desenvolvimento de novos biomateriais e avaliação do seu desempenho ex-vivo e in vivo.
