Properties of cellulose pulp prepared by oxidation solvolysis from spruce, poplar and eucalyptus - Comparison of their tearing strength

resumo

Strength characteristics of poplar, eucalyptus globulus and spruce oxygen-organosolv pulps are lon er compared to the corresponding kraft pulps. Dehydration properties oi solvents are responsible for the lack of fibre flexibility and hydrolysis of polyoses in the fibre weak points. Oxidation by oxygen implies dislocation area formation. Dislocation areas allow fibre cut during beating and diminution of tearing strength. Alkaline treatment improves strength properties of poplar pulp due to the solvation of polyoses, which increases fibre flexibility. On the contrary, the same treatment has no effect on spruce and eucalyptus pulps. These differences of behaviour can be explained by the morphological specific structures of each wood.
