Perturbed angular correlation study of Pr(1-x)Ca(x)Mno(3)

abstract

Perturted angular correlation spectroscopy via the Cd-111m-->Cd-111 probe was used to study the Pr1-xCaxMnO3 local environment at the Pr/Ca site. The room temperature electrical field gradient (EFG) parameters were measured in ceramic samples for several compositions. The principal component of the EFG, V-zz was found to decrease with increasing Ca content i.e., with the decrease of the orthorhombic distortion. In contrast, the EFG asymmetry parameter, eta, was found to increase with the Ca content, suggesting that the EFG principal axes might not be aligned with the crystallographic ones.
