Scientific Interests

i) Supercritical fluid (SCF) processing - Study of SCF properties, particularly diffusivities. - Supercritical fluid extraction of grape seed oil; (this research was preceded by the characterization of the grape seed triglycerides and poliphenolic compounds). - Catalytic gasification of biomass with supercritical water to produce streams rich in hydrogen and methane. ii) Dynamic characterization of new titanosilicate membranes (synthesised at CICECO), performing permeability experiments with pure gases and mixtures, in order to optimise their preparation conditions. iii) Design and analysis of separation schemes to recover valuable components from condensate streams of Caima - Indústria de Celulose (pulp mill). iv) Optimization and control of cyclic separation processes using parallel computing. v) Study the ability of new titanosilicate zeolites to uptake mercury and cadmium cations from aqueous solutions, to assess their potential as decontaminating agents for waters.
